The house >
The country house Mas La Carrera, with historical accounts dating back in 1330, is located in La Vall d'en Bas, a valley in the area of La Garrotxa (Catalunya). It is placed in the southern plain of Sant Esteve d'en Bas, the town where it belongs. The house as a whole is formed by a main building with an architecture which is common in the Catalan traditional country house (called Masia). It has got white façades, and it is complemented by a separate livestock, peculiarly extended in size, and several farms and roofs. From 2010, those parts of the house where the people live are being restored and therefore improved by the architect Arnau Vergés i Tejero, from Olot (see www.arnauestudi.cat/portfolio/2011-02-mas-la-carrera), who has at the same time also taken over the structure draft design of the new farms -full details can be found in the section “Animals Welfare”. The property consists of 100 hectares (247.1000 acres) altogether, divided into 70 hectares of woods (mainly oak and holm oak) and 30 hectares of fields (mainly irrigated land, being maize important) and pasture.
